St. Euphrasia Eluvathingal

St. Sister Euphrasia Eluvathingal or Euphrasia of the Sacred Heart of Jesus (October 7, 1877 - August 29, 1952) is the fifth Syro-Malabar Catholic Church nun and a member Congregation of the Mother of Carmel (CMC)  at Koonammavu, the first  indigenous congregation of Syro-Malabars. founded by St. Chavara Kuriakose Elias.

Although Sr Euphrasia wanted to live a hidden life, she was chosen as Superior of the Convent of St Mary at Ollur. Due to her profound humility she found it difficult to accept this new duty. But after an interior inspiration she acquired a statue of the Sacred Heart of Jesus, placed it in the centre of the convent and entrusted the duty of Mother Superior to his Sacred Heart. She held the post from 1913 to 1916.

For almost 48 years the convent of St Mary was home to Mother Euphrasia. Observing her life of prayer and holiness, the local people called her "Praying Mother", and her Sisters in community referred to her as the "Mobile Tabernacle", because the divine presence she kept within her radiated to all she encountered.

On 29th August, 1952, she was called to her heavenly abode. On 3rd December, 2006 Euphrasia was beatified in St. Anthony's Forane Church, Ollur, Thrissur, with the declaration of the Major Archbishop, Varkey  Vithayathil on behalf of the Pope Benedict XVI. she became the fifth Blessed of Kerala, India, and the sixth of the Nation of India.

On April 3, 2014, Pope Francis authorised the Congregation for the Causes of Saints to promulgate the decrees concerning the miracle attributed to Euphrasia's intercession. This confirmed the Pope's approval of Euphrasia's canonisation. At a special mass held at St Peter's Square at Vatican City on November 23, 2014, Pope Francis canonised Mother Euphrasia as a saint.

തൃശൂര്‍ ജില്ലയിലെ കാട്ടൂർ ഗ്രാമത്തിൽ എലുവത്തിങ്കൽ ചേർപ്പുക്കാരൻ സിറോ മലബാർ തറവാട്ടിൽ അന്തോണിയുടെയും കുഞ്ഞേത്തിയുടെയും മകളായാണ് റോസ എന്ന എവുപ്രാസ്യമ്മ ജനിച്ചത്. ഒമ്പതാം വയസിൽതന്നെ കർമലീത്താ സഭയിൽ അംഗമായി. പിന്നീട് സഭാവസ്ത്രം സ്വീകരിച്ച് എവുപ്രാസ്യമ്മ എന്ന പേരു സ്വീകരിച്ചു. ഒല്ലൂർ സെന്റ് മേരീസ് മഠത്തിൽ 45 വർഷത്തോളം പ്രവർത്തിച്ചു. 1987-ൽ സഭ ദൈവദാസിയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. 'പ്രാർത്ഥിക്കുന്ന അമ്മ' എന്ന് ഇവരെ വിളിച്ചിരുന്നു.

2006 ഡിസംബർ മൂന്നിന് കത്തോലിക്കാ സഭ എവുപ്രാസ്യമ്മയെ വാഴ്ത്തപ്പെട്ടവളായി പ്രഖ്യാപിച്ചു. 2014 നവംബർ 23-ന് ഫ്രാൻസിസ് മാർപ്പാപ്പ ഇവരെ വിശുദ്ധ എന്ന് നാമകരണം ചെയ്തു.

  

1877 ഒക്ടോബര്‍ 17: തൃശൂര്‍ ജില്ലയിലെ കാട്ടൂരില്‍ എലുവത്തിങ്കല്‍ ചേര്‍പ്പുകാരന്‍ അന്തോണിയുടെയും കുഞ്ഞേത്തിയുടെയും മകളായി ജനിച്ചു. 1877 ഒക്ടോബര്‍ 25: എടത്തിരുത്തി ദേവാലയത്തില്‍ മാമോദീസ നല്‍കിറോസ എന്നു പേരിട്ടു. 1886 ഒക്ടോബര്‍ 17: കര്‍ത്താവിന്റെ മണവാട്ടിയാകാമെന്നു വാക്കുകൊടുത്തുകൊണ്ട് ഈശോയെ ആത്മീയ മണവാളനായി സ്വീകരിച്ചു. 1888 ഒക്ടോബര്‍ 24: 12ാം വയസില്‍ കൂനമ്മാവിലെ കര്‍മല മഠത്തില്‍ കന്യാസ്ത്രീയാകാനുള്ള പരിശീലനത്തിനായി ബോര്‍ഡിങ്ങില്‍ ചേര്‍ന്നു. 1889 ഒക്ടോബര്‍ മൂന്ന്: മരണാസന്നയായ റോസക്കുട്ടിക്ക് അന്ത്യകൂദാശ നല്‍കി..അന്നുതന്നെ ആദ്യത്തെ തിരുഹൃദയദര്‍ശനവും രോഗസൌഖ്യവും. 1897 മേയ് 10: അഭിവന്ദ്യ മേനാച്ചേരി പിതാവില്‍ നിന്നും അമ്പഴക്കാട്ട് മഠത്തില്‍ വച്ച് ശിരോവസ്ത്രം സ്വീകരിച്ചുഎവുപ്രാസ്യ എന്ന പേര് സ്വീകരിച്ചു 1897 ജൂലൈ 29: രണ്ടാമതു രോഗം മൂര്‍ച്ഛിച്ചുഅന്ത്യകൂദാശ നല്‍കിവീണ്ടും അത്ഭുത സൌഖ്യം. 1898 ജനുവരി 10: അമ്പഴക്കാട്ട് മഠത്തില്‍ വച്ച് സഭാവസ്ത്രം സ്വീകരണം. 1900 മേയ് 24: ഒല്ലൂര്‍ സെന്റ് മേരീസ് മഠത്തില്‍ വച്ച് നിത്യവ്രത വാഗ്ദാനംഈശോയുടെ തിരുഹൃദയത്തിന്റെ എവുപ്രാസ്യ എന്ന നാമം സ്വീകരിച്ചു 1904 1910 : ഒല്ലൂര്‍ മഠത്തിന്റെ ഉപമഠാധിപയാകുന്നു. 1910 1913 : ഒല്ലൂര്‍ മഠത്തിലെ നൊവീസ് മിസ്ട്രസ് 1913 1916 : ഒല്ലൂര്‍ മഠത്തിന്റെ സുപ്പീരിയര്‍ 1913 എവുപ്രാസ്യമ്മയുടെ അപ്പന്റെ മരണം 1928 അമ്മയുടെ മരണം 1950 മേയ് 24 നിത്യവ്രതവാഗ്ദാനത്തിന്റെ സുവര്‍ണ ജൂബിലി ആഘോഷം 1952 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 29 ഒല്ലൂര്‍ സെന്റ് മേരീസ് മഠത്തില്‍ വച്ച് മരണം. 1963 അഭിവന്ദ്യ ആലമാട്ട് തിരുമേനി നാമകരണ ജപം അച്ചടിച്ചു. 1970 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 29 ഫാദര്‍ ഫിലിപ്പ് ഒ സി ഡി എവുപ്രാസ്യമ്മയെ കുറിച്ച് രചിച്ച കേരളകര്‍മല കുസുമം എന്ന പുസ്തകം പ്രസിദ്ധീകരിക്കപ്പെട്ടു. 1986 സെപ്റ്റംബര്‍ 27 നാമകരണ നടപടിയുടെ തുടക്കം 1987 ഓഗസ്റ്റ് 29 ദൈവദാസിയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുന്നു 2002 ജൂലൈ 5 ധന്യപദവി ലഭിക്കുന്നു. 2006 ഡിസംബര്‍ 3 വാഴ്ത്തപ്പെട്ടവളായി ഒല്ലൂര്‍ റപ്പായേല്‍ മാലാഖയുടെ പള്ളിയില്‍ വച്ച് പ്രഖ്യാപനം. .2014 നവംബര്‍ 23 വത്തിക്കാനില്‍ വച്ച് വിശുദ്ധയായി പ്രഖ്യാപിക്കുന്നു
